UP North Science and Technology Park - Bettina Arabella Edralin

Ayala Land Inc., with the permission of University of the Philippines Diliman, converted the 21 hectare property of the school along Commonwealth Ave. into a Science and Technology Park.

UP North Science and Technology Park is considered to be a 21st century park because of its up to date features and modern landscaping. The park consists of water features and different kinds of plants which gives the place a refreshing feeling.

As for its physical elements, the walkways and water features are all running in rounds and curves (Line). It gives a very fresh and cooling ambiance because the main color of the park is green and some colors like red are used for accents (color). The texture is very smooth not only because the grass and plants are nicely trimmed, but also because of the river present in the park which flows gracefully. The park is very peaceful and clean, obviously well maintained. It is well harmonized with the hardscapes located in the park as well.

As for the principles, the proportion between landscapes and hardscapes are equally divided, both complimenting each other. The park is very simple, but because of its nicely done landscaping, it gave a very grand and soothing feeling. It is mostly green, but there are some plants that have different color such as red to also give compliment and to give accent to the place. Also, there are some animals present, wandering around the park.

 I think the designed incorporated at the park is modern minimalist. It is because the park is very simple, yet it shows us its main function as a park. It also implies less is more because like what I said, it's landscaping is very simple, but it gives an eye candy to any of its visitors.
